COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD

Minutes of the Meeting

January 4, 2006

5:30 PM

The Communications Advisory Board Committee was convened in open and public session on January 4, 2006, at 5:35 PM, in the Sarpy County Board Meeting Room. The following members or alternates were present: Len Houloose, Travis Mayer, Rod Buethe, Jeff Strawn, Bob Roseland, Mark Wayne, Bob Lausten, Pat Archibald, John Stacey and Steve Betts. Notice of the meeting was given in advance by publication in the Bellevue Leader and the Papillion Times.  Copies of the Proofs of Publication are on file in the Sarpy County Clerk’s Office.  All proceedings were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.

Stacey moved, seconded by Schuster, to approve the minutes of the November 2, 2005 meeting.  Motion passed unanimously.

Director's Report: Larry Lavelle asked if there were any questions about the statistical summaries that were distributed.  He reported that a Phase 2 test with Sprint earlier in the day resulted in a “No negatives” status.  When Sprint Phase 2 comes online over half of the approximately 76,000 wireless subscribers in Sarpy County should have Phase 2 coverage.  Three dispatcher trainees are expected to complete training in early March bringing the center to full staffing. The new contract is settled. Although “hours of work” have not changed yet overtime costs are expected to decline.  Yesterday DHS announced that Omaha would be eligible to apply for 2006 UASI Grant. Larry thanked those who signed up for the UASI Workshop on January 18 and encouraged all departments to participate.

Subcommittee Reports: Mayer indicated that Yost reported that there is no Law Enforcement SOG Report.  Betts reported that the Fire SOG Group is reviewing “Help a Fire Fighter” and “Evacuation Tones” procedures.

John Prince indicated that solving the invalid address issue may require group effort.  We are working a CAD upgrade with Douglas County and vacation watches are moving from the Data General platform.  Betts asked if Douglas County had provided any additional radio IDs for Sarpy County radios.  Larry Lavelle indicated that maintenance costs may be associated with adding more radio IDs.

After determining the agenda for the March 1, 2006 meeting, Lausten moved, seconded by Betts to adjourn at 6:12 P.M.  Motion passed unanimously.
