Communications Supervisor

The Communications Supervisor is responsible
for supervising and coordinating the daily operations of the Communications
Center which is engaged in receiving emergency and non-emergency calls,
dispatching personnel and equipment, and providing medical pre-arrival
instructions to callers.
The Supervisor works under the supervision of
the Communications Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Prepares work schedule to ensure that
sufficient shift personnel are available for work load demands
* Maintains currency and proficiency in all
radio, telephone and computer systems
* Teaches Emergency Medical Dispatch to all new
employees
* Reviews Communications Center operations to
identify technical and operational training needs
* Makes decisions regarding complicated
situations and problems relating to communications personnel
* Investigates complaints against dispatchers
by reviewing details and reports from involved individuals. Administers
appropriate counseling or disciplinary action
* Meets with committees composed of
representatives from fire, EMS, sheriff, police departments, public and other
interested groups to develop, review and update policies and procedures
* Issues oral and written instructions
* Updates and revises Standard Operating
Guidelines
* Assigns duties and examines work for
conformance to policies and procedures
* Maintains harmony among workers and resolves
grievances
* Prepares employee evaluations twice yearly
* Administers proficiency review program
* Assists in the selection, hiring, and
training of communications personnel
* Prepares taped copies of actual telephone or
radio recordings for law enforcement, fire, or EMS for use in judicial
proceedings
* Completes monthly NCIC Validations
* Maintains personnel records
* Prepares payroll and tracks employee
attendance
