DISPATCHER

A dispatcher must be able to receive emergency and non-emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency service. They must determine the nature and location of the emergency and other pertinent information to be able to dispatch the correct law and/or fire jurisdiction.

In regards to radio traffic, a dispatcher has to maintain contact with all assigned field units by checking their status and updating their locations. A dispatcher is also required to enter, update, and retrieve information on a variety of computer systems. They will receive requests for information regarding vehicle registration, driving records and warrants, and provide pertinent data.
