COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM ADVISORY BOARD

Minutes of the January 8, 2003 Meeting

The Communications Advisory Board Committee was convened in open and public session on January 8, 2003, at 5:30 PM, in the Sarpy County Board Meeting Room. The following members or alternates were present: Len Houloose, Rod Buethe, Paul Wagner, Bob Roseland, Tom Koksal, Rolly Yost, Mark Wayne, Pat Archibald, John Stacey, Steve Betts, and Kirk Schuster. Notice of the meeting was given in advance by publication in the Bellevue Leader and the Papillion Times. Copies of the Proofs of Publication are on file in the Sarpy County Clerk’s Office. All proceedings were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.

Archibald moved, seconded by Stacey, to approve the minutes of the Nov 6, 2002 meeting. Motion passed unanimously.

Director's Report: Dan Peterson reported no problems with the 800 MHz system since last meeting; however, the Gretna Fire Paging transmitter failed late last month. A spare provided by Bellevue has been installed pending repair. (Later during the meeting, Buethe recommended that consideration be given to procure a spare for countywide use. Peterson and Johnson will research and propose recommendation). Offutt AFB 9-1-added a 7-digit line dedicated to receive calls from our center. A status on the statewide radio system was presented. Generally the "rebidding" process remains uncertain. The issue of a VHF versus 800 MHZ system is unresolved. Peterson informed the board of a request by the Ralston Fire Department to add one portable radio for mutual aid use on the Sarpy system. Stacey moved, seconded by Buethe, to approve the request. Motion passed unanimously. A summary of the Printrak offer for a no cost upgrade of our LRMS was presented. Its value is about $150,000. Upgrade of our servers (hardware) will be required at an approximate cost of $50-$60 thousand. All law agencies urged acceptance of this offer. Wagner moved, seconded by Stacey to have Peterson present the offer to the county board for approval at their first meeting in February. Motion passed unanimously. President Houloose asked Peterson to provide information copies to advisory board members of the LRMS upgrade proposal that county board members are to receive.

President Houloose had no report. There were no subcommittee reports. After determining the agenda for the March 5, 2003 meeting, Betts moved, seconded by Yost to adjourn at 6:00 P.M. Motion passed unanimously.
