OUR COMMUNICATIONS CENTER

The Communications Center is located in the basement of the Sarpy County Courthouse at 84th Street and Highway 370.

In September of 1995, the Communications Center for Sarpy County (which covered the LaVista Police Department, Papillion Police Department and the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office) combined with the Communications Center for the City of Bellevue to create our current Sarpy County E-911 Center.

In order for the Comm Center to run efficiently, we have an Agency Director, Center Supervisor, Training Manager, 4 Lead Operators, 4 Senior Operators, and 23 dispatchers. In addition, there are 3 Information Specialists and 1 Communications Technologist.

There are 6 consoles on the main floor of the Communications Center with an additional console in the Training Manager’s office just off the main center.    Besides the 911 Center in the Courthouse, we also have an alternate site with 2 additional consoles in case of an evacuation situation or a major event such as New Year’s Eve 1999-2000.

Each console in the Sarpy County Communications Center (SCCC) is built exactly like the others. This allows for a dispatcher to handle any job from any console.

The Comm Center consoles are set up in an oval shape to allow the dispatchers to hear what the others are doing yet still be able to hear and respond to the officers/fire units without interference. After a dispatcher completes the training, they are able to handle any of the six console positions. Dispatchers are required to rotate through the different channels in order to ensure proficiency.
