SARPY COUNTY EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE

The Sarpy County Local Emergency Planning Committee was convened in open and public session on January 10, 2001 at 7:30 PM at the Metropolitan Utilities District LaPlatte Plant. The following members or alternates were present according to the sign-in sheet: Jane Hedges, Joel Christiansen, Jeff Book, Tom Hanson, Ron Clark, Matt Albino, Marilyn Gable, Matt Wallace, Tim Schram, Rolly Yost, Steve Young, Gary Fliehmann, Rich Weber, Keith Deiml, Wade Peterson and Carol O’Donnell.

Advanced notice of meeting was published in the Bellevue Leader and Papillion Times. Copies of Proof of Publication are on file in the Sarpy County Clerk’s Office. All proceedings were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public.

 

BOARD REPORTS:

Chairman Report: Chairman Wallace reported that there were no incidents since the last meeting, and distributed SERC appointment letters to members.

Vice Chairman: None

Information Officer: Wallace advised that updated information is needed for the LEPC Resource Book and LEOP revisions.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Exercise: Wallace advised of the Offutt Air Force Base National Disaster Medical System exercise held on Saturday October 14, 2000 and the LEPC HAZMAT Exercise held on Saturday December 2, 2000.  There is an Omaha/Council Bluffs Sub Area Contingency Plan Functional Exercise scheduled for February 15, 2001.  There is a Ft. Calhoun radiological exercise scheduled for Bellevue in October 2001.

Financial: No activity

Legislative: Wallace advised that the following bills have been submitted and are of interest to the committee: LB 262 (LEPC one-year funding bill) and LR339 (Regional HAZMAT Teams).

Outreach: Statewide Proclamation of Chemical Safety Awareness Week schedule for March 01.

Plans: LEOP and LEPC Resource Book revision requested. Please review your portion and submit any changes.

Training: Two 4-hour radiological courses will be offered between February 13 and 17 due to the imminent transportation of nuclear waste across Nebraska.  Contact Sarpy County EMA at 593-5785 to schedule a an offering.  The Annual Nebraska SERC/LEPC Conference will be held in North Platte on March 2 and 3.  Contact Sarpy County EMA at 593-5785 to register for this free training.

Elections: Wallace nominated, seconded by Steve Young, the following slate of candidates:

Secretary Maria Reiter

No other nominations were received.  Motion passed unanimously.

With no further business, Vice-Chairman Fliehmann asked for a motion to adjourn. Motion made by Roche, seconded by Keep. Motion carried.

 

Program: Joel Christiansen of Metropolitan Utilities District provided a tour of the LaPlatte water treatment plant.
