PROGRAM

Lieutenant Governor Dave Heineman presented and answered questions about Nebraska Homeland Security. He praised Nebraska’s teamwork in three key areas: grants, bioterrorism preparedness and communications. The Department of Homeland Security is awarding several rounds of Federal Counterterrorism Grants and counties must work to develop strategies, plans and priorities to support equipment purchases. Lt. Governor Heineman then described the makeup of the Nebraska Homeland Security Policy Group, and how the Nebraska Smallpox Vaccination Plan is considered a leader in the country. He also pointed out the potential risk to Nebraska posed by agricultural terrorism.
