Several air accidents have occurred in Sarpy County in the last 50 years, four of which occurred in the last 23 years. Offutt Air Force Base near Bellevue is the home of the US Strategic Command.

Sarpy County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. A steady increase in population also increases vulnerability to people when an air accident occurs. The vulnerability of property would generally be low.
Maximum Threat - Rating: Medium
An air accident with maximum threat is considered to be an aircraft crash landing in a housing area while attempting to land at or take off from Offutt AFB. People in the vicinity would need to be evacuated due to the nature of some military cargo.
Probability - Rating: High
Based on historical data, it is assumed that one air accident could occur in Sarpy County every five years.
General Comments:
Primary effect of an aircraft accident may be injuries, loss of human life, and destruction of property. Secondary effects most likely to occur would be evacuation, fire and explosion.
