Several industrial accidents have occurred in Sarpy County in and around Bellevue and Papillion. The most significant occurrences have involved chemical leaks.

Vulnerability - Rating: Medium

Major industries lie in rural areas of Sarpy County. A steady increase in population and industrial growth have increased vulnerability to the risk of death or injury to people if an industrial accident occurs. The vulnerability to property would be low with an overall vulnerability rating of medium.

Maximum Threat - Rating: High

An industrial accident with maximum threat would be a fire and explosion at Arcadian Fertilizer combined with a northerly wind. This could expose the City of Bellevue to large amounts of anhydrous ammonia.

Probability - Rating: Low

Based on historical data and continuous upgrading of safety plans, it is estimated that an industrial accident would occur in Sarpy County once every 20 years.
