Natural Gas Interruption

 

An extended interruption of natural gas service, particularly during cold weather, could create a potential health problem for the population. Breaks in natural gas pipelines could create a potential explosion hazard and evacuation.

History - Rating: Low

There are no recorded periods of extended interruption of natural gas service in Sarpy County.

Vulnerability - Rating: Medium

Sarpy County has three main underground Northern Natural Gas pipelines. A leak or explosion in the area of one of these pipelines would create a moderate risk to persons living in the area.

Maximum Threat - Rating: High

A worst case scenario would be a prolonged interruption of natural gas service during the winter. Nebraska is susceptible to harsh winters and an extended interruption could cause fatalities in Sarpy County.

Probability - Rating: Low

No occurrences of prolonged natural gas interruption have been recorded in Sarpy County. With adequate gas supplies from the south there is a small probability of an extended gas interruption.

General Comments:

The primary effects of a natural gas interruption include explosion and fire. Secondary effects include evacuation and reception of evacuees.
