Sarpy County Hazard Analysis

Summary

Sarpy County is susceptible to numerous potential hazards, eighteen of which have been determined to be hazards that could have a significant effect on the population and public or private property. Thirteen of these have been identified as high priority hazards, the most severe of which are: tornado, flooding, hazardous materials spill during storage or transportation, winter storm, ice storm, terrorist activity, earthquake, industrial accident, transportation accident and health threats from air or water pollution.

The highest priority hazards have been defined in this analysis. The Sarpy County Local Emergency Operations Plan specifically addresses response to these hazards. Additional potential hazards with lower priority hazards could require an emergency response. In most cases, the organization, capabilities, resources, and procedures necessary to meet high priority hazards would be adequate and appropriate for these lesser hazards. This disaster analysis will be a foundation for developing and improving disaster response capabilities, preparedness plans, and mitigation efforts.
