LEPC's are appointed by the State Emergency Response Commission to gather and disseminate information about hazardous chemicals in the community, and to review, exercise and update the community chemical emergency response plan. According to Federal Law, the LEPC must represent a cross-section of the community, in order to maximize community preparedness.
The LEPC took out a half-page ad on September 9, 1998 entitled What Every Sarpy County Resident Should Know. The ad was donated by PCS Nitrogen to help bridge the gap between industry, government and the community. Prepare yourself, your family and coworkers. View the State Emergency Response Commission's Shelter-in-Place public service announcement video (7.22 MB, 30 seconds long).
Further details on LEPC regulations and remedies are available on the Web. You can also search online hazardous materials data bases to find facilities reporting hazardous materials in your area. Check out other LEPC's on the web.
Plan to attend LEPC meetings, or volunteer to serve as a citizen representative. Learn what to do in the event of a hazardous materials release. The more you know about hazardous materials, the better prepared we will be to manage chemical hazards. Contact the Sarpy County Local Emergency Planning Committee via e-mail , or phone 402-593-5785, for more information, to make comments or suggestions about this site, or to volunteer to serve.
