Nebraska Supplemental Nutrition Program for
Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
The Nebraska Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides nutrition information and food at no cost to help keep pregnant women, infants and children under five healthy and strong.
The WIC Program is available at approximately 120 clinic sites located throughout Nebraska. The Program currently serves about 36,000 participants each month. Participants shop for WIC approved foods at over 400 authorized stores across Nebraska.
Since 1972, the WIC Program has helped millions of pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women; infants; and children throughout the United States. The Program works with health professionals to provide nutritious foods and reliable health information.
The WIC Program has four basic goals, to:
- Provide nutrition and health education.
- Encourage breastfeeding.
- Provide supplemental foods at no cost.
- Promote regular health care through referrals.
It is this combination of education, supplemental foods, and referrals to health care providers which allows WIC to make a difference. The WIC Program staff works with health and social services professionals to ensure the best health care possible.
