Prohibited Items
Below is a list of waste prohibited from
landfill disposal, however Sarpy County provides a separate
drop off area at the landfill for several of these wastes
listed. For additional information, please contact the Sarpy
County Environmental Control Office at 402/253-2461.
Hazardous Wastes:
Hazardous waste from industry, business,
and government are prohibited from entering the landfill site,

Special Wastes from industry, business,
and government:
Defined as non-hazardous wastes which are
generated from industry, business, and government. The Sarpy
County Landfill will not accept Special Waste as a rule, however
we will accept petroleum contaminated soil with these conditions:
Examples
of Potential Hazardous or Special Wastes:
- Radioactive waste
- Flammable or explosive wasteCorrosive
wastes
- Infectious wastes
- Pesticides and herbicides
- PCB wastes, light ballasts, dielectric
fluids
- Florescent light tubes, mercury containing
wastes
- Asbestos containing wastes
- Sludge's and tank sediments
- Waste contained in drums, buckets or
cans
- Waste marked with placards, warnings
or danger labels
- Wastes with chemical odors
- Solvents, thinners, paints or inksPetroleum
contaminated wastes
- Treated railroad ties and power poles
- Industrial, process dusts, airborne wastes,
powders
Yard Waste:
Defined as; grass and leaves. Grass and
leaves are prohibited from disposal in the active working
area of the landfill. The county does provide a compost site
at the landfill for yard waste disposal for all customers.
No plastic yard or leaf bags accepted at the compost site.
All trash must be disposed of at the working face of the landfill
or the multi-purpose building. No co-mingled trash and yard
waste accepted at the compost site or the working face of
the landfill. Repeated infractions of co-mingled waste will
result in "Non-compliance" fee of $500.00 per truck.
Bulk Liquids (Other than household):
Bulk liquids are prohibited from disposal
in the landfill. These wastes require approval for disposal
from the waste water treatment plants. Please contact the
Sarpy County Environmental Control Office at 402/253-2461
for additional information.
Appliances (White Goods):
Waste appliances are prohibited from disposal
in the landfill. However, the County has provided a drop off
area at the landfill for white goods, (major appliances) a
separate fee is required.
Or consult the telephone book for recyclers who handle appliances
for a fee. The recyclers may offer a less expensive fee for
disposal.
Waste Oil and Lead Acid Batteries:
Waste oil and lead acid batteries are prohibited
from landfill disposal. However, as a public service to the
customer the landfill has provided a drop off location at
the landfill for your convenience. Also provided is a waste
oil barrel for used motor oil, please follow the directions
provided by the gatekeeper.
Tires:
All tires are prohibited from disposal in
the landfill beginning September 1995. A drop off site is
provided at the landfill for and additional
fee. Large loads of tires will not be accepted.
