Holiday Closings

The following services are available through the Sheriff's Administrative offices:

Permit to Purchase a Handgun
Accident/Theft Reports
Vehicle Title Inspections

Permit to Purchase a Handgun (Gun Certificates):

To obtain a permit to purchase a handgun, the following is needed:

* If in the military, you need to show your driver's license, military ID, copy of your orders and current proof of where you live now WITHIN Sarpy County (i.e. phone bill, utility bill, bank statement).

Your gun certificate will be mailed out or you may pick it up after three (3) working days not to include the application day.

Obtaining an Accident or Theft Report:

You may obtain an accident or theft report through our records department.  You will need the following:

>  Drivers names that were involved in the accident.   Time, date and location of accident. (for accident reports)                                                             

> Names of person or business involved in the thefts. (for theft reports)

>  A $5.00 fee applies payable in cash or check.

Note:  If you have the Incident Report number, you may use that as a reference to obtain the reports. 

Copies of reports may be issued 5-9 days from the date of occurrence.

Vehicle Title Inspection:

The Vehicle Identification  is another component of the Sheriff's Department, responsible for inspection of vehicles to ensure proper title and registration. The manufacturers' numbers on vehicles are checked to make certain that a vehicle has proper title and is not a stolen vehicle.               

All vehicles titled in another state, overseas and all salvage vehicles require an inspection. Vehicles exempt from   inspection are vehicles with manufactures statement of origin and federal government vehicles. 

The inspection consists of VIN verification and an odometer reading.  Odometer reading are exempt if the vehicle year is 10 years or older.  This is not a safety or emission inspection.  Vehicles inspections are required 30 days after entering the state.

> Location:  South/East corner of the Sarpy County Courthouse. 

>Fee: $10.00 payable in cash or local checks. Credit or debit cards are not accepted.

>Office Hours:  Monday through Friday 8:00 - 4:45 pm, with the exception of Wednesday, which is 8:00 - 6:00 pm.  Inspectors do onsite inspections at Sarpy County license dealers only.  The requirement is a 3 car minimum and a $4.00 per vehicle fee will be charged.

Vehicle Impound Facility:

The Vehicle Impound Facility is located at 14242 South 156th Street, Springfield, Nebraska. The phone number is 253-2590. Hours of operation are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with the exception that it will be closed on holidays.
