ROAD PATROL
 

The Road Patrol Division consists of 49 sworn deputies, 9 Sergeants, and 4 Lieutenants.  Sarpy County Deputies patrol 241 square miles, with a population of just over 162,000 people, and also provides contract law enforcement services with the cities of Springfield and Gretna.  The Road Patrol is responsible for traffic control, crime reports, and emergency response to a variety of different incidents.  Some of the services that the Road Patrol Division provides includes the following:

911 service for emergencies 3
Medical emergencies
Crimes in Progress
Suspicious persons, vehicles or activities
Fights, disturbances and riots
Traffic accidents
Fires in structures, vehicles, trash, grass and brush
Carbon monoxide detector activation

SARPY COUNTY TRAFFIC UNIT

The Sarpy County Traffic Unit operates under a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety. It is a cooperative effort between the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office and the Bellevue Police Department. The unit is made up of a deputy and a sergeant from the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office and two officers from the Bellevue Police Department.

The focus and goal of the unit is to reduce traffic fatalities and serious personal injuries related to traffic accidents. This objective is accomplished by enforcement of the traffic laws and through public education.

Members of the Sarpy County Traffic Unit are available to give presentations related to Drinking and Driving, Texting and Driving and Seat Belt Use. For more information, please call the Traffic Unit Sergeant at 402-593-2288.

NEW CRUISERS

The Ford Crown Victoria has been the main patrol vehicle for the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office, as well as many other agencies throughout the country. Ford announced they are no longer going to produce the Crown Victoria Police Package. The Sheriff's Office has obtained new vehicles to evaluate as a replacement for the Crown Victoria.

The new vehicles being evaluated are the Ford Sedan Interceptor, the Ford SUV Interceptor, and the Dodge Charger. These vehicles will be evaluated for at least a year. At the end of the evaluation period, a decision will be made as to which vehicle will replace the Crown Victoria.
