Sarpy County Human Services will help clients assess their needs, make referrals and coordinate with other community resources. This office does work closely with local community organizations to insure non-duplication of services, to maximize resources for resolving local poverty issues.
Financial assistance provided through this program may include rent, board and room, utilities, and non-food vouchers. Out-of-County transportation is provided in certain situuations. Assistance is limited to those persons in Sarpy County between the ages of nineteen and sixty-four who are not eligible for other public assistance and/or do not have sufficient income or resources to meet all or part of their shelter needs.
Eligibility is based on income and resources, with $35,000 maximum equity in a home and $4000 maximum in one vehicle being exempted. Monthly income and resource guidelines vary based on the number of related persons in the household, for example, one-person household $425 and two person household $440.
All General Assistance payments are made directly to the landlord, and/or utility company. Vouchers are provided to purchase non-food items at Family Fare Supermarket.
General Assistance is a temporary solution and does have work requirements. If an exemption has not been granted, all recipients are expected to actively seek employment while they are receiving assistance.
